Sacrifice and Prosperity:
Tullahoma's experience during World War II (continued)
Many romantic unions received their start in Tullahoma during the war, and Flyd Weatherbee states that his most vivid memory of Tullahoma was meeting his future wife, Frances. Mary Searcy Couch Hopkins even participated in the wedding of a young girl who came to Tullahoma to marry her fiance. The young girl did not know anyone in town, so she asked Mrs. Hopkins to be in her wedding. The generosity of the Tullahoma people is still recalled by the many people who passed through the community during the war.
It must not be forgotten that many men from the Tullahoma area did not stay in Tullahoma during the war. They were off fighting for America's freedom, and they were never far from the hearts of their loved ones and friends. A great number of area men did not return, and it is with great honor that we remember their sacrifice. Tullahoma prospered during the war, but it also sacrificed many of its best and brightest citizens in the fight for victory.
